Sunriver Resort Is Your Home Base for Central Oregon Adventures

While the seasons begin to change and summer adventures slowly become a part of the past, there is still so much to explore in Central Oregon! The family that plays together, stays together and at Sunriver Resort, the cliché becomes reality. Here, all ages can enjoy an array of fresh-air adventures that will excite, educate and entertain. Don’t miss these activities during your next visit.

  • Cycle 40 Miles of Scenic Bike Trails

Are you a family that loves biking? Welcome to paradise. Sunriver is home to more than 40 miles of spectacular bike paths, suitable for all levels of cycling experience – and the resort makes it easy to get out and enjoy them. The adventure begins at the Bike Barn, where more than 300 bikes are tuned up and ready to ride. The experts here can get you set with the perfect bike for everyone in your crew. For a readymade bike journey, hook up with the Bike Barn team to learn more about an intermediate bike tour to Benham Falls, one of Central Oregon's most gorgeous natural destinations. You'll cruise through lovely landscape of the Deschutes National Forest, soaking up the scenery and enjoying the fresh air.

  • Explore A Volcano

You’ve probably done some hikes with your family. But you’ve probably never done a hike like this. Wanderlust Tours' journey into the belly of an ancient volcano takes you past mountains of pumice and obsidian (black volcanic glass) and the shores of sparkling Paulina Lake. You'll pass through an old-growth hemlock forest and marvel at towering lava flow. For active adventure-seeking families, this hike is a must-do, and at just two miles, it's accessible for most ages and abilities.

  • Saddle Up!

Even though Sunriver and the surrounding areas are famously beautiful, they look even better on horseback. At Sunriver Stables, guided trail rides through a forested landscape are available for guests of all experience levels, from beginner to advanced riders (instruction is provided prior to all rides). For little buckaroos looking to get in on the fun, pony rides are available for kids ages 2-6. Sunriver Stables’ Shetland ponies are just the right size for smaller riders – and they are friendly and unbelievably cute (you’re going to want pictures!)

  • 7 Wonders of Oregon : The Painted Hills

Take a journey back in time to the Painted Hills. About a two hour drive from the Resort, it's worth every minute when you step out of your car and see the layers of colors in the hills. There are millions of years of history in the layers of reds, yellows, golds and blacks. Each visit to the Painted Hills is unique due to the ever-changing light and moisture levels, so if you've already been - we suggest another visit!

  • Meet Luna

Our neighbors at the Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory have added their newest animal ambassador, a Eurasian Eagle-owl, Luna, and are offering private meet and greets with this extraordinary owl! The Nature Center is a short bike ride from the Resort and they offer many events, learning experiences and private family experiences. A visit to the Nature Center and Observatory is a must-add to your Sunriver bucket list.

  • Take a Scenic Drive

Load up the family, pack a picnic and take to the open road! The Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway is one of the best day trips you can take in Central Oregon, loaded with magnificent views of Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top and the Three Sisters! The drive offers plenty of stops at alpine lakes to explore, hike, fish, paddle board, the list goes on! One of our favorite "must-see" spots along the way is Devil's Lake, where the turquoise waters are stunning. Sparks Lake is another destination that offers some jaw-dropping views of South Sister. The Scenic Byway is easily accessible from Sunriver and Bend, depending on where you want to start your journey. Check out this tour map before your trip.

  • Chill Out

A Sunriver vacation isn't complete without a little pampering, let your cares drift away with a day at Sage Springs Spa. Our Spa encapsulates the spirit of the High Desert region with its warm ambiance, signature services and indigenous products. Take some time to relax and rejuvenate with one of our signature massages. A Riverside Relaxer or Deschutes Deep Tissue massage are sure to bring you into a state of relaxation. Looking to extend your day of pampering? Choose from specially formulated manicures and pedicures, which are sure to cure your sore feet after all your adventuring around Central Oregon!
