7 Day Stay - Golfer's Paradise

Published on: August 21, 2020

Featuring Oregon's Finest Golf, Sunriver Resort Is a Golfer's Paradise and An Ideal Choice for A Golf Vacation

Pacific Northwest Golf is at its best... rounding out summer and moving into fall, when the summer-rush has simmered down, the days are still long, and the course conditions are impeccable. Call in and ask for the Golf Add-on with your 7-day stay to get the most out of your journey, which includes a round at Meadows, Woodlands and our famed Crosswater course. Slow down, take your time on the greens, and enjoy the beauty of Sunriver with your buddies.

DAY 1

WARM UP FOR YOUR WEEK OF GOLF

After settling into your home away from home, you will probably want to get some practice swings in to warm up for the week. Head over to back side of The Lodge and enter the Merchant Trader to line up a bucket of balls on the Meadows range. The views are stunning. Mt. Bachelor and the Three Sisters mountains framing the background and the crisp sound of the ball connecting with the club make for a perfect introduction to the beginning of your stay.

On your way back to The Lodge, order a beer and some dinner to-go from Carson's American Kitchen. Enjoy the glorious sunset in the Backyard, breathe in that fresh pine air and begin to unwind from your travels.

DAY 2

MEADOWS COURSE

Get a head start on the day by fueling up at Café Sintra, where benedicts and omelets rule!

Since you warmed up at Meadows yesterday, you’re now ready to hit the course. Meadows is acclaimed architect John Fought's latest creation. The course features tremendous variety within its 18 holes, seven of which border the meandering Sun River. Fought's design pays tribute to the great American golf courses from the 1920's and 30's with its aesthetic grace, while its dramatic use of directional and fore-bunkers serve up ample challenges for golfers of all skill levels.

The Meadows golf course has played host to numerous USGA and NCAA golf championships, including the NCAA Men's Division I championship tournament. In addition to 18 exciting holes, Meadows is also home to the popular 9-hole putting course. Named one of the Top 10 Destinations for Family Golf by Golf Digest, January 2016. Ranked #15 in Golf Advisor's Golfer's Choice Award: Best of Oregon Golf Courses 2019.

For Dinner, we recommend Suniver Brewing Company (reservation needed), which offers pub fare with an artisan flare and amazing beer for all palettes. They also offer curbside pickup if you’d like to head back to your room or home.

DAY 3

BREWS AND VIEWS

Load up at Carson’s American Kitchen, where you will find an array of delectable breakfast plates and morning beverages. What’s popular? Try Bend’s famous Ocean Rolls, baked by our partner The Sparrow Bakery, served French-Toast-style — YUM.

Chill out with your friends floating on the Deschutes. Choose a vessel out of the Sunriver Marina, offering a 6-mile float (2-3 hours depending on the vessel). Whether it be a canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard, float down the Deschutes River among islands of tall grasses, past the horses, and you might even see a bald eagle if you’re lucky. Find everything you need at the Marina Shop – sunscreen, water bags, swimsuits, etc. The temperature can be cool on the water, so layer-up moving into the fall months.

After your float, warm up with comfort food from Hola restaurant, overlooking the Marina, offering nouveau Mexican-Peruvian cuisine and the best guac in town. And if you’re looking to take it to the next level and have an amazing time getting to know some of our local breweries, connect with Wanderlust Tours in Bend, offering a Brews and Views package which includes beer tasting, canoes and large mountain lakes. But that’s not all … they also offer The Local Pour package a craft beer tour of Bend, and the Bend Brew Bus – a behind the scenes brewery tour. A little something for everyone!

DAY 4

WOODLANDS COURSE

Today is a great day to play Woodlands. Designed by internationally celebrated golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., Woodlands features dense forests of Ponderosa and Lodgepole Pine, outcroppings of lava rock and an abundance of water. Noted by golfers for superb conditioning and its beautiful setting, the Woodlands is one of the Northwest’s finest championship courses. Named one of the Top 10 Destinations for Family Golf by Golf Digest, 2016. Ranked #8 in Golf Advisor's Golfer's Choice Award: Best of Oregon Golf Courses 2019. The Woodlands Golf Shop features Nike Golf products; including men’s and women’s apparel, footwear, clubs and equipment.

Grab food at McDivot’s Café, located next to the putting green, offering wonderful breakfast sandwiches, burgers and fries, deli sandwiches, snacks and your favorite beverages. A great new place to meet for early evening patio dining as well.

Looking for something to do in the evening? Head over to the nation’s largest publicly accessible Observatory, here in Sunriver. This NASA-sponsored outlet will blow your mind! One-hour sessions include night sky viewing through various telescopes with staff astronomers, a guided constellation tour, meteorite displays, and an educational presentation.

DAY 5

FLY FISHING

Fly fishing with your buddies is the perfect option for the day. Contact Hook Fly Shop to take you out in the early morning. They offer all-inclusive guided fly-fishing trips for a full or half-day experience. Looking for a trip to a lake, instead? Full day and half day trips available to many surrounding lakes. Species include rainbows, browns, brook, bull and cutthroat trout, plus Atlantic salmon and kokanee.

Find everything you need to prepare and cook your catch of the day at the Sunriver Country Store— our local grocery market, located in The Village. Grab some beers and make it a memorable evening, reminiscing fireside about your daily adventure.

DAY 6

CROSSWATER COURSE

Time to step up your golf game with a morning challenge at Crosswater. Grab breakfast at The Turn Café window where they offer breakfast burritos, coffee and other quick fare.
Honored by Golf Digest as one of "America's 100 Greatest Courses," Crosswater is a heathland-style course situated on 600 magnificently scenic acres of woodlands and carefully preserved wetlands. This Oregon golf course features five tee placements for each hole, bent grass fairways and greens and is threaded by the gently flowing Deschutes and Little Deschutes Rivers. In fact, depending on tee selection the rivers can come into play as often as seven times in a round.

Rounding out your golf session, enjoy lunch at The Grille at Crosswater (reservations needed). Some of our favorite items on the menu Crab Avocado, Beet-Lover's Salad, Elk Sliders, and the Big Deschutes Burger.

DAY 7

TAKE IT EASY

Take one last stroll on the paths in the morning, soak in that pine air, and reminisce about the golf getaway that filled your soul, with memories to last a lifetime. Enjoy Carson’s for breakfast, overlooking the Backyard, pond, green and Cascade mountains in the background. Pop in to Merchant Trader for memorable gifts to remember your stay.
