Three decades of Sunriver Resort’s sweetest and most creative tradition.

Each winter, very serious construction begins across Sunriver Resort, except the building materials consist of cookies, frosting and candy rather than wood and nails.

Gingerbread Junction, a cherished Sunriver Resort tradition, runs from December 6 through the New Year. Each year, The Lodge is filled with rows of adorable gingerbread creations crafted by community members. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver and are matched dollar for dollar by the Resort. Last year’s event raised an impressive $6,100, with Sunriver Resort representatives presenting the funds to Kim Gammond, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver.

Gingerbread Junction’s 30th Anniversary

This year marks the 30th anniversary, and it’s shaping up to be a charming competition. 2025’s Gingerbread Junction saw over 65 entries and 9,097 votes cast, more than ever before, with charitable donations also breaking records.

The mix of creativity, festivity and generosity keeps competitors coming back year after year and guests returning to choose their favorite gingerbread display. Bringing the community together to create and vote, the event is a holiday highlight that everyone looks forward to.

How To Enter Gingerbread Junction

It all starts with entrants buying a mini lot to build on, a fun connection to Habitat for Humanity’s homebuilding work in southern Deschutes County. With categories spanning kids, families, students and local businesses, there’s something for everyone. The whole Resort and surrounding area get involved, with nearby schools participating every year.

For gingerbread construction, the only limit is your imagination—as long as at least 51% of your gingerbread structure is edible. As the decorative dioramas stay on display for a month, entrants have to get creative with both their dessert savvy and architectural skills. Crafting the detailed cookie creations is a labor of love, with some taking weeks to finish.

Each memorable exhibit is a chance for self-expression, with entrants drawing inspiration from movies, festive stories, Central Oregon and Sunriver Resort itself. Previous standouts include gingerbread houses modeled on Beetlejuice, Hogwarts and the Bend roundabouts.

The elaborate gingerbread structures remain on show throughout the holidays. Memorable and meaningful, casting your vote is the perfect way to celebrate the season.
