7 Day Stay - Romantic Getaway

Published on: August 21, 2020

Reconnect and Unwind with Your Special Someone

Summer madness is winding down, and you’re looking for a vacation from your vacation — we’ve all been there! Make the most of the last days of summer and fall during a romantic getaway with your special someone. Grab your favorite bottle of wine, enjoy the sounds of the birds, breathe in that wonderful pine-air, and just relax. A 7-day stay allows you to unwind and really get into that zen-mode you’ve been yearning for all summer. Book some time at the Spa, take long nature walks, eat amazing food, gaze at the stars, snuggle up near the fireplace, and forget about everything you’ve left behind.

DAY 1

SOAK UP THE SCENERY

Welcome to Sunriver Resort! After checking in, we recommend you pop up to the hostess stand in The Lodge and ask to see the wine list – you deserve it. As you mosey toward your guestroom or suite, head out to the back patio and plop yourself down in an Adirondack chair... you have arrived. Pour yourselves a glass of wine and soak up the scenery. Take a deep breath and notice the scent of pine – it surrounds you. Listen to the birds as they chirp and dodge happily in the sunny sky. Relax and let go.

Hungry for dinner? Order Carson’s To-Go, direct to the room, as you continue to unwind from your drive or flight. After dinner, put on your tennies and take a stroll down any section of our beautiful, paved trail system and enjoy the sunset, bringing a close to your peaceful evening. One of the perks of being in the Pacific Northwest – the unforgettable sunsets.

DAY 2

KAYAKS & CHARCUTERIE

Perhaps today is perfect for being on the water. Sunriver Resort offers a 6-mile float (2-3 hours depending on the vessel) out of the Marina. Choose your vessel of choice, whether it be a canoe, kayak or standup paddleboard and float down the Deschutes River amongst islands of tall grasses, past the horses, and you might even see a bald eagle if you’re lucky! And yes, your furry friend is welcome too! Find everything you need at the Marina Shop – sunscreen, water bags, swimsuits, etc. The temperature can be cool on the water, so layer-up moving into the fall months. There’s nothing more romantic than being on the water with your sweetie. You might want to plan-ahead and pack a sack-lunch or order a charcuterie platter to-go from Carson’s to enjoy during your adventure.

For Dinner, we recommend South Bend Bistro, here in Sunriver at The Village. Executive Chef Kelly Day has a fresh perspective of Central Oregon cuisine. A mix of local culinary products known to the Northwest, as well as imported specialty meats and cheeses, makes this menu unique. Wines thoughtfully selected by David Stofle to balance with each dish.

DAY 3

SPA DAY FOR TWO

Today is all about you. Let’s begin the morning centering your chakras and grounding yourself with some Nature Yoga. Enjoy fresh mountain air during this relaxing Hatha Flow Yoga class near the river, hosted by Sage Springs Spa. Afterward, take a nature walk on the trail, through the pines. Listen to the birds and enjoy each other’s company.

Make your way back to Sage Springs Spa for a Riverside Relaxer or Deschutes Deep Tissue massage. Our skilled massage therapists offer a variety of massage techniques tailored to meet your specific needs to encourage relaxation and rejuvenation. Please book your appointment ahead of time, here. Ask about our beverage add-ons ... a glass of champagne always helps to set the mood.

Whisk your lover away to a fancy dinner at Carson’s American Kitchen. With an amazing wine selection and decadent cocktails, you’ll be in for a treat. Some of our food-favorites: Coho Salmon with roasted corn succotash; pork chop with aged white cheddar soufflé; seafood pasta, and of course, the filet. Please make a reservation ahead of time. Carson’s is also available for pick-up if you want to get cozy in your room near the fireplace.

DAY 4

HELI-TOUR OVER THE CASCADES & DINNER ATOP A VOLCANO

Ok you love birds…if you’re going to propose, this might be the day. Can it get any more perfect than flying over the RING of fire?! If this is the case, we recommend you invite a photographer to join you on your excursion!

Experience an unforgettable, 60 minute, scenic helicopter adventure over the magnificent snow-capped Cascade Range and over the Ring of Fire. Head to the Sunriver Airport, minutes away from the Resort, where you will be met by Big Mountain Heli-Tours. This tour is paired with a complimentary wine tasting and bottle of wine from VaPiano after your flight – perfect for you and your loved one. On this spectacular mountain helicopter tour, you’ll soon be flying above the summits of Bend, with gorgeous views of snow-capped Cascade Mountains stretching from North to South, including Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, Mount Washington, North Sister, Middle Sister, South Sister, Broken Top, and Mount Bachelor, leaving you with lasting memories.

Another option: a Helicopter Wine Tour! From Sunriver Airport, you will be flown away to private vineyards, landing at a site overlooking acres of working farm grounds, canyons and ridges. The winery grounds are set before its namesake the Three Sisters Mountains; Faith, Hope and Charity. Take in the breathtaking views of Smith Rock and the Mountain range right from their tasting room or see them from the air! Helicopter wine and vineyard tours includes a charcuterie, artisan cheese and chocolate tasting board that you can enjoy outside with stunning mountain views. This tour can be combined with weddings in Bend, corporate events, bridesmaids adventures and much more. Bring your imagination and sense of adventure and they’ll do the rest. *It looks like they might be offering $100 off this fall, so ask them about their discount!*

For dinner, we recommend The Grille at Crosswater. Amidst a memorable setting reflective of the region, tall grasses and rolling greenery, The Grille at Crosswater has the feel of the true Northwest. It's an inspiring ambiance for Chef Jason Greene's distinctive menu of New American cuisine featuring diverse foods prepared with the freshest and finest local ingredients available. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Complimentary shuttle service is provided for guests to and from the resort. Reservations are required.

DAY 5

CHASE SOME WATERFALLS

Sunriver and its surrounding areas are home to many beautiful waterfalls. Here is a list of our top local favorites:

  • Benham Falls: Can be accessed by vehicle, on foot or on bike straight from the Resort!
  • Tumalo Falls: Lookout deck situated straight off the parking lot, or an easy hike to the top!
  • Paulina Creek Falls: There is an accessible trail to picnic sites and a stunning overlook of the falls.

Looking for dinner with a breathtaking view? We recommend a drive up to Mt. Bachelor, for dining atop the volcano! Thursday through Sunday evenings Mt. Bachelor offers a dining experience that transcends the ordinary. After a short but scenic chairlift ascent, you'll arrive at the Pine Marten Lodge, where you'll be treated to a visual and culinary feast served at 7,800’. The locally inspired prix-fixe menu offers everything from family-style appetizers and individual entrée selections to hand-crafted cocktails or your favorite beer and wine pairings. Take in the expansive Cascade views between courses and enjoy a true feast for the senses. Whether you're dining with family, friends, or that special someone, a Sunset Dinner at Pine Marten Lodge is one you won't soon forget. Bundle up and dress in layers. It can get chilly up at the top! Reservations are strongly encouraged and are available starting at 5:00 p.m., with the last seating at 7:45 p.m. each evening that dinner is offered.

DAY 6

RELAX BY DAY, STARGAZE BY NIGHT

Load up at Carson’s American Kitchen, where you will find an array of delectable breakfast plates and morning beverages. What’s popular? Try Bend’s famous Ocean Rolls, baked by our partner The Sparrow Bakery, served French-Toast-style — YUM.

This might be a good time to relax at The Cove, featuring a zero-entry pool and hot tub, private cabanas, a waterslide, nature walk and discovery area, lakeside trails and a spacious deck and lawn. Looking for a more intimate space? Reserve a cabana and stretch out. The Spotted Frog Café, located at The Cove is the perfect spot for delicious lunchtime fare while enjoying the sunshine. Pool reservations can be made online before you arrive.

Make a reservation for dinner at Marcello’s Cucina Italiana, an award-winning Sunriver establishment owned by a brother and sister team, Thad & Autumn. Marcello's offers an extensive menu of contemporary and traditional Italian food, with a Northwest twist, ranging from pastas & hand tossed pizzas, to salmon & filet mignon. Dishes are made to order from the freshest possible ingredients, locally obtained whenever possible. Enjoy your meal next to the fireplace, on the patio, in the lounge, or in the comfort of your own home. Carry-out is available.

Looking for something to do after the sun goes down? Gaze up at the stars at the nation’s largest publicly accessible Observatory, here in Sunriver. This NASA-sponsored outlet will blow your mind! One-hour sessions include night sky viewing through various telescopes with staff astronomers, a guided constellation tour, meteorite displays, and an educational presentation. There’s nothing more romantic than cuddling up under a blanket with your special someone, a bottle of wine, and the Milky Way.

DAY 7

RETURN REFRESHED

Take one last stroll on the paths in the morning, soak in that pine air, and reminisce about your romantic getaway. Enjoy Carson’s for breakfast, overlooking the Backyard, pond, green and Cascade mountains in the background and pop in to Merchant Trader for memorable gifts to remember your stay.
