At Sunriver Resort in Central Oregon, fall rolls right into the holidays with outdoor recreation, indoor play and seasonal events across 3,300 acres. A blue-sky afternoon might call for a long ride through the pines, while cooler evenings are made for stargazing and s’mores around the fire pits in The Backyard. Indoors, guests can play pickleball, swim, try duckpin bowling or keep their golf game going. Once Traditions begins, horse-drawn sleigh rides and holiday lights add even more ways to experience the Pacific Northwest’s treasured outpost for fun, wellness and adventure.

For a fall weekend, Thanksgiving getaway or December stay, these 12 activities offer something for nearly every kind of day at Sunriver Resort.

1. Play Indoor Pickleball at Sunriver Resort’s Pickleball Pavilion

The Pickleball Pavilion’s eight indoor courts keep friendly competition in the mix year-round. Change up the doubles teams, take a lesson or settle a family match.

2. Bike Sunriver Resort’s 40+ Miles of Paved Paths

A clear day is an invitation to keep exploring on two wheels. Pick up a rental at the Bike Barn, then follow the Resort’s 40+ miles of paved paths past the Great Meadow, through the pines and to Lake Aspen, where resident trumpeter swans are often part of the view.

3. Try Duckpin Bowling at Forest House in Caldera Springs

Duckpin puts a different spin on the family bowling match with smaller balls, shorter pins and three rolls per frame. Forest House has two lanes for Caldera Springs Owners and for guests who book a Caldera Springs home through Sunriver Resort Vacation Properties.

4. Go Stargazing at the Oregon Observatory at Sunriver Resort

Earlier sunsets offer more time to enjoy Sunriver’s dark skies. Head to The Backyard for stargazing, or check the Oregon Observatory calendar for an indoor planetarium program.

5. Warm Up in a Heated Igloo at the Cove

At the Cove Aquatic Center, private heated igloos come with plush seating, warm blankets, board games, s’mores and a fire pit all to yourself. Reservations are required, so it pays to plan ahead for the coziest seat at the Cove.

6. Play Indoor Golf at Sunriver Resort

As temperatures cool, the Foresight indoor golf simulator downstairs in The Lodge keeps golf in play with virtual rounds on Crosswater, Meadows and Woodlands.

7. Visit Sunriver Nature Center

Sunriver Nature Center offers a closer look at its animal ambassadors, from owls and hawks to snakes, frogs and salamanders. Daytime visits also include the nature trail and botanical garden.

8. Swim Year-Round at the Cove Aquatic Center

Swimming is always in season at the Cove, where the heated indoor pool and enclosed Cinder Cone waterslide offer a welcome change of pace between outdoor adventures.

9. Make S’mores at The Backyard

Around the fire pits in The Backyard, s’mores kits make it easy to settle in with something warm, sticky and best eaten under the open sky. Which side are you on this year: golden and gooey or lightly charred?

10. Go Ice Skating at The Village at Sunriver

At The Village at Sunriver, beginners and longtime skaters share the covered outdoor ice rink. Holiday music plays from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, adding a little cheer to every lap.

11. Take a Horse-Drawn Sleigh Ride at Sunriver Resort

Daily beginning December 13, horse-drawn sleigh rides leave from the lawn behind The Lodge. Bundle under a blanket for a magical ride across the winter meadow.

12. See the Holiday Light Show During Traditions

During Traditions at Sunriver Resort, the Holiday Light Show fills The Backyard with synchronized lights and festive music. Catch a show, then warm up by the fire pits while the evening glows around you.
